MSPs unite to stop plan to scrap news notices
MSPs have called on the Scottish Government to drop plans to allow public notices to be published online instead of in newspapers.
MSPs united to oppose moves to lift the current requirement for councils to advertise planning applications, road closures and other public information in newspapers.
Labour culture spokeswoman Pauline McNeil branded the proposal "an assault on knowledge and information".
Tory MSP Ted Brocklebank warned the withdrawal of public sector advertising could see some newspapers going to the wall.
Labour's motion calling for the moves to be scrapped was passed by 76 votes to 48.
