Judge receives favourable verdict on lifetime's work
ONE of Scotland's most distinguished judges was being honoured at an awards ceremony in Edinburgh today.
Lord Hope of Craighead, who is now deputy president of the UK Supreme Court, was receiving a "lifetime achievement" prize at the Scottish Legal Awards, voted for by senior figures from law, politics and business in Scotland.
Lord Hope, educated at Edinburgh Academy and Edinburgh University, , worked for 24 years at the Scottish Bar, ultimately as dean of the faculty of advocates.
He was lord president of the Court of Session from 1989 until 1996. Last year, he became one of the first justices of the new Supreme Court of the United Kingdom – one of only two from the Scottish bench – and its first deputy president.
