EVERY Scottish household is to receive an information pack on the new powers being devolved to Scotland in a public information campaign unveiled by UK ministers.
The proposals from the commission chaired by Lord Smith of Kelvin, which will be enacted after the election and include control over income tax, air passenger duty and welfare, were put together in a five-party agreement involving the SNP, Tories, Lib Dems, Labour and Scottish Greens.
Ahead of the election, the Scottish Office has announced that a mail drop will be sent to each household explaining the changes with the information also available online and via local media.
Scottish Secretary Alistair Carmichael said: “Lord Smith was very clear people in Scotland need a better understanding of what powers are devolved to Scotland – both what is currently devolved and the new powers that are coming. These are major changes and it is important people understand what they will mean for them.

“That’s what we are providing – the simple facts about what the UK government is doing to further strengthen the powerful Scottish Parliament.”
He added: “With two governments working together, I believe Scotland has the best of both worlds. The Scottish Government can deliver solutions tailored to specific Scottish needs which is backed up by the safety, security and strength which comes as part of the wider United Kingdom.
“The information being provided builds on a programme of stakeholder events across Scotland which are being held to engage people about the new powers being provided and gather feedback.”
