Former city leader backs MP over resignation
HOLYROOD Labour candidate Donald Anderson has backed Nigel Griffiths' decision to quit his Government job over Trident.
The former council leader, who is standing in marginal Edinburgh South at May's election, said the renewal of Britain's nuclear deterrent had not been raised with him as an issue on the doorstep, but that did not mean it would not influence the way people voted.
He said: "I have supported Nigel for many years and I am perfectly comfortable with the line Nigel has taken. There is not a jot of difference between our positions.
"We need to take every opportunity we can to reduce the tensions out there and work with other countries to improve security throughout the world."
