Environmentalist challenges First Minister on his quotes
A LEADING environmentalist has accused First Minister Alex Salmond of misrepresenting him over the Scottish Climate Change Bill.
Richard Dixon, the director of WWF Scotland, hit out after he was quoted during First Minister's questions yesterday when Mr Salmond used his remarks from December, which described the bill as "the most ambitious in the world".
The First Minister was responding to an attack from Liberal Democrat leader Tavish Scott, who quoted a press release issued yesterday by a group of environmentalists that described the bill's 2020 emission targets as "very disappointing".
Mr Dixon later told The Scotsman that he had drafted the press release and his views had been "misrepresented" by Mr Salmond.
He demanded that the SNP stick to its manifesto promise to introduce a meaningful target of more than 40 per cent of emission cuts by 2020. "This bill can still be saved," he said.
