Church group demands action on 'bigot' slur
A CHRISTIAN pressure group has asked the Scottish Government to cut its links with gay campaigning group Stonewall after two senior churchmen were nominated for a "Bigot of the Year" award.
Evangelical group CARE Scotland claimed the inclusion of the Archbishop of Birmingham and the Bishop of Hereford in tonight's Stonewall awards was insulting to many Christians. In a letter to First Minister Alex Salmond, CARE Scotland's parliamentary officer Gordon Macdonald said that Stonewall's nomination of the Archbishop was because of his public stance on Sexual Orientation Regulations.
"In the past the Scottish Executive/Government has funded Stonewall to the tune of hundreds of thousands of pounds and continues to consider Stonewall an appropriate organisation for partnership working," he wrote.
"In the light of these concerns about the nature of Stonewall and its offensive nominations, I would ask you to reconsider the Scottish Government's relationship with, and funding of, that organisation."
