Brown 'hiding in bunker' as poll looms
DAVID Cameron yesterday accused Gordon Brown of "hiding in his bunker" in the final sprint to the Crewe and Nantwich by-election.
The Conservative leader taunted the Prime Minister in the Commons at Prime Minister's Questions by highlighting predecessor Tony Blair's refusal to stay away from by-election campaigns.
Mr Cameron said Mr Blair "led from the front" in by-elections, while Mr Brown did not have the "courage" to explain his policies in person. He asked: "Hasn't the Prime Minister put himself in his bunker?"
Meanwhile, in a further blow to Mr Brown yesterday, Brendan Barber, the general-secretary of the TUC, said New Labour needed to "reconfigure its DNA".
