Brankin bids for cancer debate
MIDLOTHIAN Labour MSP Rhona Brankin is bidding to stage a member's debate in the Scottish Parliament on the rising rate of breast cancer in Lothian.
In a motion which has won cross-party support, Ms Brankin draws attention to figures showing nearly 3,000 women in the area were diagnosed with the disease between 2002 and 2006.
The motion notes that breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer for women in Scotland; recognises that women with breast cancer deserve appropriate diagnosis and treatment; and praises the "invaluable" work of breast cancer organisations.
Ms Brankin also highlights the role of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in raising awareness.
