Alistair Darling to hit out at Tories
CHANCELLOR Alistair Darling was today expected to accuse the Tories of "relishing the chance to swing the axe" at public services.
In his keynote address to Labour's UK conference in Brighton, he was set to claim only Labour can make tough decisions "for the right reasons".
He was expected to say: "Just as there was a choice over tackling the recession and helping the recovery, so there is on public spending.
"A choice between a Labour government which believes passionately that front-line public services are vital, and a Tory Party which has reverted to type and has shown it is relishing the chance to swing the axe at the public services millions rely on. Cuts-driven ideology – not what's right for families and the country."
