Actor Alan Cumming has spoken of Scotland’s “free education and healthcare” in a campaign advert for presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders.

Appearing alongside fellow actor Susan Sarandon, director Spike Lee and singer Harry Belafonte, the Perthshire-born star asks why Americans cannot enjoy the same benefits as Scots. “I’m from Scotland,” he says.

“It’s not a particularly rich country – it’s not nearly as wealthy as the United States of America, for example.

“Yet everyone has access to free education and healthcare. Why don’t we have that in America?”

Vermont senator Mr Sanders is vying with Hillary Clinton to win the Democratic nomination for president.
