£50,000 cash boost to help make streets safer at night
FUNDING of more than £50,000 was announced today to help make streets in Edinburgh and the Lothians safer at night.
The cash is part of a 400,000 package to help reduce alcohol-related violence and disorder in Scotland's city and town centres.
The money is intended to fund community safety initiatives such as high visibility police patrols in "hot spot" areas, targeting of street drinkers, enhanced CCTV and late-night taxi marshals.
Edinburgh will receive 24,242, East Lothian is to get 4,000, and Midlothian and West Lothian 12,121 each.
Minister for community safety Fergus Ewing said: "This additional funding for all Scotland's local authorities will support community safety projects that seek to reduce violence, particularly alcohol fuelled violence in our towns and cities and stop the minority spoiling the fun for the rest of us."
