Polish man hospitalised after stabbing

A POLISH man was rushed to hospital after being stabbed next to a public library in Leith.

The 23-year-old victim was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary after he was knifed in the daylight attack in McDonald Road.

It is believed the victim may have been homeless and another Polish man, who was also thought to be living rough, is being sought by police.

The road was cordoned off for several hours while forensic experts carried out a fingertip examination of the scene only a few yards from Leith Walk.

Residents described seeing a long trail of blood on the road following the incident which took place at around 6pm on Saturday.

A McDonald Road resident said: "The police were here all night on Saturday and the officers in white suits were searching the area."

Police today appealed for witnesses to the stabbing to come forward. The force were unable to give an update on the victim's condition.

A police spokesman said: "Anyone with information should call police on 0131-311 3131, or Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555 111."
