Polio survivors wanted for new campaign
SURVIVORS of polio in the city are being called upon to come forward and raise awareness of the lasting effects of the disease.
It is thought many of those who contracted the disease decades ago could be experiencing what is called post polio syndrome.
Symptoms include fatigue and aching, and a charity wants to raise awareness to secure more funding to carry out research into the condition.
Edinburgh woman Jacqui Sanger, 61, was diagnosed with polio in 1950. She has led a fulfilling life, but is now has post polio syndrome. She said: "It's sad to think that there are so many people out there who are struggling to deal with the symptoms of post polio syndrome."
