Police say Brazilian woman invented racist attack
A BRAZILIAN woman who claimed to have miscarried twins after being attacked by knife-wielding Swiss skinheads was never pregnant, police said yesterday.
Investigators also said Paula Oliveira, 26, probably carved the initials of Switzerland's main right-wing party into her own skin.
The woman had claimed in a newspaper she was three months pregnant and had miscarried after being attacked outside a Zurich railway station. She said three skinheads cut her stomach and legs with "SVP", the initials of Schweizerische Volkspartei, Switzerland's main right-wing party, which has a hardline stance against immigrants.
However, the party is part of Switzerland's broad coalition government and has never had links to neo-Nazism.
Walter Baer, head of forensic medicine at Zurich University, said: "Any experienced forensic doctor would not hesitate to assume that this was a case of self-infliction."
