Police recruit criminals' Audi as latest weapon in war on gangs
A £40,000 vehicle seized from a criminal gang begins a new life as a police car this week.
The top-of-the-range Audi Q7 was taken during an operation in the north of Glasgow.
It has since been emblazoned with Strathclyde Police livery and will be used by the force's specialist gangs taskforce to fight crime.
Police plan to eventually sell the vehicle and use the proceeds in policing and community projects.
Assistant Chief Constable John Neilson said the seizure was a warning to gangsters in Glasgow.
He said: "I would say to the criminals that what you have this week; your houses, your cars – you might not have next week.
"The hard-working, law-abiding citizens need to know that we are hurting those involved in serious and organised crime where it matters – their pockets.
"These criminals are fast realising they are not above the law. We are determined to make a long-term impact in this area."
