Police make mobile security call

POLICE today advised mobile phone users in the Lothians to mark their handsets with ultra-violet pens to help officers reunite owners with stolen devices.

Officers recommended phones be marked with the owner's postcode and house number.

The force advised that underneath the battery next to the SIM card and on the back of the battery itself are the best places to make the markings.

A police spokesman said: "Many mobile phones are stolen in pubs and nightclubs when they are left on a bar, table or on a nearby seat.

"Open handbags also prove tempting, as do coats hanging on chairs, and phones left unattended in vehicles."

He also advised users not to make calls in crowded situations where the phone could be easily snatched.
