Police catch mobile idiots
POLICE caught 19 drivers using a mobile phone behind the wheel in Edinburgh in just eight hours during a crackdown on motorists flouting the law.
The drivers were snared between 7am and 3pm on Tuesday in a follow-up to a national day of action against illegal mobile phone use held on Monday.
Inspector John Beresford said: "To have 19 motorists caught breaking the law in Edinburgh alone in a single day, so soon after a national campaign, is very disappointing.
"The facts speak for themselves, drivers using mobile phones are four times more likely to be involved in a road crash, which could have devastating consequences for themselves, or other road users. No call is worth risking a life for."
