Police appeal for help finding £500,000 of jewellery stolen on train

DETECITIVES investigating a £500,000 jewellery theft on a train today appealed for help from the public.

The made-to-order jewellery was in luggage which was stolen from the 1550 Glasgow to London King's Cross service on November 5.

The owner, believed to be a jeweller from the south of England, alerted police after noticing his luggage had been stolen.

The theft happened some time before the train stopped at Motherwell.

The haul included gold, platinum and palladium wedding, eternity and engagement rings, bracelets and pendants.

Detective Constable Raymond Grimley, of British Transport Police, said: "The stolen jewellery is unique and unusual in design and therefore extremely valuable.

"I am appealing for anyone who was on the train and may have seen anyone acting suspiciously to come forward.

"I would also like to hear from anyone who is offered jewellery in unusual circumstances to come forward."
