Police seize £180,000 of cannabis in 'factory' haul

MORE than 600 cannabis plants, with a street value of £180,000, were seized by Tayside Police yesterday in a raid on a flat in the Perthshire village of Alyth.

The raid on a flat at the Old Mill Buildings in the village's Banff Road was carried out as part of an intelligence-led operation by the Tayside force. A 25-year-old Chinese man was detained.

Detective Chief Inspector Bruce Kerr, who led the raid, said: "We are pleased with this operation as it has prevented a large quantity of illegal drugs from reaching the streets of Tayside."

He added: "It is not the first so-called cannabis factory to be discovered in the region and we appeal to the community to tell the police about any suspicious activity."
