Police search leading estate in poisoned eagle inquiry

ONE of Scotland's leading sporting estates was yesterday at the centre of a major police investigation into the illegal poisoning of a golden eagle.

Tayside Police confirmed that its officers had executed a number of search warrants on the Millden Estate in the heart of the Angus glens, after the body of the poisoned bird of prey was discovered on the Glen Esk estate earlier this month.

The bird, understood to have been killed by a banned pesticide, is the second golden eagle to have been illegally poisoned in Scotland this year.

Investigations are continuing into the poisoning of a golden eagle found in June on a hillside in Argyll. The bird – believed to be one of a breeding pair – had also been killed with a banned insecticide.
