Police are investigating after a body was found in a burn

POLICE were today investigating after a body was found in a freezing burn in the Capital.

The body of the man, who is believed to have been aged between 50 and 65, was discovered by a dog walker at just before 1pm yesterday in the burn running through wasteground beside Forkenford, off Duddingston Road West.

Scott Kelly, 46, today told how he attempted to rescue the man from the icy water – only to discover he was dead.

Mr Kelly, a coach builder, said: “A dog walker knocked at my door in a panic, saying there was a man lying in the burn, so I went out to investigate.

“When I first saw him lying there I thought he was still alive. I waded in and dragged him from the water. But once I got him up on the bank, I realised he was dead.”

Forkenford, a residential street, was cordoned off for a number of hours yesterday afternoon.

Lothian and Borders Police said this morning that it did not appear that the death was suspicious.

It is the second body found in a burn in recent days. The body of Andrew Hardie Cochrane, 56, was found in Broxburn, West Lothian, on Saturday.

Police have said his death was not suspicious.
