Police hunt for robber who attacked woman with syringe

A SYRINGE-wielding robber who stabbed a woman in the chest and arm is being hunted by Glasgow police.

The unnamed woman was approached by her attacker on Loretto Street in the city's east end yesterday.

He stabbed her twice with the syringe and stole her purse before escaping on foot.

Strathclyde Police Detective Constable Richard McAvoy said: "This was a frightening ordeal for the victim and she is obviously very upset by it.

"This attack happened in broad daylight in a busy residential area.

"It may be that someone saw this man either before or after the incident or they may even know who he is and I would appeal to anyone with information to contact us immediately."

The suspect is white, 5ft 9in, aged 30-35 and of medium build. He has acne scars and was last seen wearing a cream-coloured jacket, blue jeans and blue and white Adidas trainers.

Constable Marie Stewart from the area's local Community Safety Department said: "Thankfully this was an isolated incident but it is obviously very worrying for local people. However I'd like to reassure the community that high-visibility patrols will continue to police the area."
