Police fear for safety of woman car passenger

Police are concerned for the safety of a woman who was seen in a car in Edinburgh possibly in a state of distress.

The woman was spotted in the back of a blue or dark blue four-door hatchback at the traffic lights at the junction of Causewayside and Salisbury Place, in the Grange area, last Wednesday at around 7.25pm.

She was drawing attention to herself, and Lothian and Borders Police are seeking to confirm she was not in need of help.

The woman is described as being in her 50s, and she was wearing a dark headscarf with pink flowers on it, that was tied under her chin, a dark red coat and thick-framed round glasses.

The man who was driving the car is described as being white, of medium build, in his 40s or 50s with medium-length grey hair.

A police spokesman said: "We are keen to hear from anyone who may recognise the description of the two people in the car, as we want to establish the woman was not seeking any help when attracting the attention of the general public."
