Plea to Lloyds' shareholders
A FORMER chairman and trustee of the charitable arm of Lloyds Banking Group is calling on shareholders to hold the bank to account over plans to cut funding to charities in Scotland.
George Mathieson, formerly of Lloyds TSB Foundation for Scotland, speaking ahead of the bank's rights issue meeting today described the group's behaviour as "outrageous" in light of the amount of taxpayers' money given to keep it afloat.
The foundation, which has given 85 million to charities in Scotland since 1985 has been told its income will be reduced due to the financial crisis. Mr Mathieson also raised fears the group may want to dispense with its responsibilities towards the foundation.
