Physios will help elderly to avoid falls
PHYSIOS in the Lothians are visiting sheltered housing complexes to advise elderly people on how to avoid falls.
The Physios On The Go scheme running across East Lothian sees the homes of frail and vulnerable people inspected to make sure walking aids are up to scratch and appropriate footwear is available.
Midlothian is also set to benefit from the scheme, which is part of an NHS Lothian drive to reduce the amount of people reporting to hospital following a fall.
Roz Eccles, the lead physiotherapist who helped set up the scheme, said: "Many falls are caused by walking aids not being maintained – such as rubber tips wearing out on walking sticks. Footwear can be a big problem as well."
