Pervert social worker had hundreds of indecent pictures
A SOCIAL worker has admitted possessing hundreds of indecent pictures of children on his home computers.
Kevin Glancy, 45, was employed to look after children and families in the social work department at Edinburgh City Council.
But in his free time he was surfing the net for pornographic pictures and videos of young boys.
He was caught after police, acting on a tip-off, searched his home in March and seized two computers and a laptop.
They were examined and found to contain 239 images of children aged between eight and 14, mostly boys, being abused.
Thirty of the images showed the most severe end of the child abuse scale – level five – and included scenes of bondage.
Glancy also had 70 film clips of child porn stored in his hard drives, showing moderate to severe types of abuse.
He was arrested on March 5 and when questioned, admitted he had been accessing child porn for three years and named a website he used for downloading the illegal images.
Glancy, who lives with his mother and sister, told officers he looked at child porn during his free time.
He has been suspended from work since the offences were discovered and has now been placed on the sex offenders' register.
Glancy, of Stanley Street, Edinburgh, pleaded guilty at Edinburgh Sheriff Court today to possessing indecent photographs or pseudo-photographs of children at his home on March 2.
He will be sentenced next month after psychological and background reports.
Fiscal depute Siobhan Monks said: "He was employed by City of Edinburgh Council as a social worker and worked in the area of families and children.
"Police received intelligence about him and he was found within his home.
"He stated to police that there would be child porn on the new computer but he had recently cleaned the older computer as he was going to give it to his nieces.
"A total of 239 images were recovered from the computers. The majority of the images seemed to involve children aged eight to 14," she added.
Sheriff Elizabeth Jarvie called for more information about the distress the children shown in the video were likely to have suffered before sentencing Glancy.
