Pedal power ignites prize for gas firm
SCOTTISH Gas has become the largest private-sector organisation to receive a Cycle Friendly Employer Award from Scottish Cycling, for its commitment to encouraging more staff to cycle to work.
A total of 750 employees at the Edinburgh office have access to secure cycle-storage facilities, as well as shower and changing provisions, to encourage them to cycle to work.
The company has collaborated with "A Better Way to Work" - a project hosted by Edinburgh charity the Bike Station to promote cycling, walking and public transport as a means of commuting.
The Bike Station has even organised "Dr Bike" sessions to help employees at the Edinburgh office get their bikes in good working order.
Scottish Gas staff in the city can also benefit from free cycle training and the free bike-loan service, as well as other incentives, to make an active journey to work.
