Pay smokescreen
Alan Boyter is being a little facile (Letters, 12 December). He knows as well as I do which point of the pay scale Professor James Barbour is on. He also knows that each person moves up a point each year until he or she reaches the top point of that scale. One stays there until retirement or regrading. Why then produce the smokescreen of national base at £127,582 to £173, 840?
