Patient's whiskers get the chop after 45 years for heart charity
A BEARDED heart patient is to remove his distinctive whiskers for the charity which has provided him with so much help.
Alex Robertson, who was diagnosed with heart failure in 2004, will lose his facial hair for the first time in almost half a century on April 1.
He is aiming to generate hundreds of pounds for Chest, Heart and Stroke Scotland as part of the fundraising evening at the Royal British Legion in Dalkeith.
He said: "Although the event is happening on April 1, it is no joke – I really am going to be clean shaven for the first time in nearly 45 years, but it's all in a good cause.
"I was diagnosed with heart failure in 2004 and have had tremendous support from the charity since then so I wanted to give something back.
"With the support of family, friends and the local community I managed to raise 475 for CHSS at a social event last Christmas and I hope to raise even more next month with my big shave."
For tickets, priced 2.50, phone Mr Robertson on 0131-663 2229 or Sandra Brown on 0131-553 1857. They will also be available on the door on the night, which begins at 7.30pm.
