Patient library launched at ERI in memory of therapist
A NEW library service has been launched for elderly patients in memory of a former member of staff.
Senior occupational therapy assistant Marion Binnie suggested a patient library service be established at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, which won her second place in the Staff Suggestion Scheme Awards.
Following Marion's death at the end of 2006, her therapy team within Medicine of the Elderly applied for funding for a library service for elderly patients.
The bid went ahead and further support is being requested. The service also received a generous donation from Marion's family, who wanted to see it established in her memory.
The library visits three wards and some 100 patients on the first Thursday of every month.
Lead therapist Enid Henery said: "Marion had worked with elderly patients for more than 20 years. She loved working with them and she had a rare gift.
"The new library service is a fitting tribute to her memory."
