Parking rules at Western General set for shake-up
PARKING arrangements at the Western General Hospital are to be shaken up following the scrapping of charges.
Health chiefs say the changes to the arrangements will make parking easier for patients, staff and visitors.
It should mean congestion is eased on the main approach road and within the site.
The Scottish Government brought in new rules at the beginning of the year – to the annoyance of NHS Lothian chiefs – which meant people could park for free at the hospital.
The move led to fears of it becoming a park and ride for the city centre.
Now visitors and patients will be able to use car park one, with staff without permits using the second car park and car park nine.
Staff who do carry permits will be given an extra 35 spaces at car park 12, with another 35 following at the end of the month at car park six.
