Paolozzi show inspires jazz suite

A TOP Scottish musician has begun writing a suite inspired by the works of Leith-born artist Eduardo Paolozzi.

Martin Kershaw, a leading light in Scotland's jazz scene, was inspired by a visit to the Paolozzi retrospective at Edinburgh's Dean Gallery in 2004.

He will perform his work – titled Hero as a Riddle – with musicians from leading Scots jazz band Mr McFall's Chamber.

Three performances, from November, will feature projected images of Paolozzi's work as well as a pre-concert talk about him.

The project is being funded by the Scottish Arts Council's New Music Award.

Mr Kershaw, a saxophonist who lives in Edinburgh, said: "I was struck by his incredible versatility as an artist and fearlessness in constantly exploring new creative directions.

"I feel a certain kinship with him, since I have similarly always tried to explore as many different styles and influences as possible."
