Pakistan police accuse Taliban leader of Bhutto assassination

POLICE yesterday formally accused the top Taliban leader in the country of masterminding the assassination of opposition leader Benazir Bhutto.

Police filed preliminary charges in court against Baitullah Mehsud, whom the Pakistani government named as a suspect in Bhutto's killing. Four others were also charged in the suicide and gun-attack at a public rally.

At least 38 people were killed yesterday by a suicide bomber at a funeral in north-western Pakistan. The funeral was for one of three policemen killed by a roadside bomb earlier on Friday.
