GOVERNMENT-backed troops have killed 22 insurgents during an operation in the north-western Khyber tribal region of Pakistan.
A statement from the country's Frontier Corps said yesterday it also destroyed three militant hideouts.
The military claims to have killed scores of insurgents in the region in the past two weeks. Militants frequently attack lorries in the famed Khyber Pass carrying supplies to US troops in Afghanistan.
Meanwhile, the top official in Khyber, Tariq Hayat, said 350 police have quit their jobs because of threats from the Taleban-affiliated group Lashkar-e-Islam.
The group is one of the main targets of the military operation.
