Pair saddle up for charity ride in France

TWO amateur cyclists will pedal their way through France next week to raise cash for Down's Syndrome.

Keith Ferguson, 44, and Ernie McVey, 54, accompanied by support drivers Grant Cairns and Julie Taylor, will set off for France next Tuesday and clock up between 50 and 120km every day for 12 days to complete the 1200km coast to coast trip.

The pair, who work together in the Capital, are undertaking the gruelling cycle to raise money for Down's Syndrome Scotland, the charity that has supported Keith's seven-year-old daughter, Claire, over the last few years.

Keith said: "When Claire was born with Down's Syndrome it was a very difficult and confusing time for us.

But very early on we were contacted by Down's Syndrome Scotland and they have been amazing. They provided us with information and support and have helped us at various stages."

All four team members work for HBoS's risk services in Sighthill and have been given volunteering time off by the company. They have raised over 4000.
