Congratulations are due to your classical music correspondent, Ken Walton, for exposing the threat hanging over the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra in the event of a Yes vote (Weekend Life, 9 August).
He also clinically dismantles all culture minister Fiona Hyslop’s bland assurances about the future of the orchestra. He also, rather worryingly, notes how poorly informed she appears to be on the subject.
It is, however, on a par with all the Yes campaign’s bland assurances that little will change, and everything will be better. On the cultural front, as well as many other areas – economic, social, environmental and political –the outlook after a Yes vote is very bleak indeed.
