Organiser of Gathering calls for investment
THE organiser of the loss-making Gathering which took place this summer has called for more public investment for future events.
Even though 600,000 was lost as a result of this year's Homecoming Scotland centrepiece, Lord Jamie Sempill said additional taxpayers' funds would be needed.
He claimed it was the recession and the poor weather which impeded the event – attended by 47,000 Scots from home and abroad.
"I believe that in future the budget should reflect a more equitable balance between public and private funding," he wrote on his blog on the Panalba website.
"I am also confident that the second Gathering will generate another great boost for the economy of Scotland."
