Organ donation at 10-year high
DONATIONS of organs have reached a ten-year high, the Scottish Government has said.
Health secretary Nicola Sturgeon said there were 72 successful organ donations last year, which brings Scotland closer to its target of 24 in a million people in 2013.
Speaking at the Organ Donation in Scotland conference in Edinburgh yesterday, Ms Sturgeon said: "We want to bring about a doubling of the number of organ donors. But that's against a background of the UK – and Scotland – having had one of the lowest rates of organ donation in western Europe.
There are real signs things are improving."
