Orchestra tunes up for 2012 Olympics
The London Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO) is to record the national anthems for the 2012 Olympics.
Composer, conductor and cellist Philip Sheppard will take charge of the arrangements for the 205 national anthems which will be played at the ceremonies.
The hard work for the 36 musicians will begin in May, when they start recording at Abbey Road Studios, the renowned venue used by rock artists including The Beatles, Pink Floyd and Coldplay.
It will take them at least 50 recording hours to finish the project, with the last session taking place in September.
Mr Sheppard, who specialises in film and television soundtracks, said: "We'll be recording every national anthem of the world in the world-famous Abbey Road Studios that have been graced by so many incredible artists, so I hope that spirit of creativity and industry accompanies us on this enormous undertaking."
