Opticians' fight for poor eyes
AN opticians is set to open on Sunday as part of a national drive to help raise cash for Zambia's first eye clinic.
Specsavers on Shandwick Place has promised to contribute 3200 of its takings to the project.
The event is part of a nationwide effort to raise 250,000 to build Zambia's first eye clinic with Vision Aid Overseas.
Celebrity photographer Penny Lancaster-Stewart is supporting the project.
Store director Aly Uka said: "Our staff are really excited to be part of Specsavers' fundraising Sunday. It is such a worthwhile cause and one that will provide a long-term solution to the people of Zambia."
The store has also appealed for people to take part in a recycling programme, bringing in any old, unwanted glasses which will then be sent out to the Zambia clinic.
Mr Uka added: "These glasses will, quite literally, give someone the gift of sight."
