I refer to letters of D Stevenson (9 July) and A Gilbert (10 July) about that great Scottish emblem the Lion Rampant flag.

According to the Court of the Lord Lyon in Edinburgh, the Lion Rampant is not a national flag and its use by citizens and corporate bodies is entirely wrong; its display by any of the foregoing is an offence under the law. The Lion Rampant is the Scottish Royal banner and its correct use is restricted, by law, to only a few great officers who officially represent the sovereign. For full details see lyon-court.com.
