Christine Jardine’s dislocated jab at Alex Salmond’s displays of patriotism, spontaneous or otherwise (Perspective, 18 July), displays the worst type of journalism all too evident today.

This journotician (Jardine stood as a Liberal Democrat in the Aberdeen Donside by-election) veers between attacking the First Minister on his flag-waving activities before careering into the populist debate about men-only golf clubs.

I do agree with her view of politicians basking in the reflected glory of our sporting heroes but, come on Christine: please declare your interest as a wannabe politician for the other side and allow the reader to take your declared interest into account before you paint a picture of the SNP First Minister as a political opportunist.
