In response to the local and European election results, Tony Blair said last week that “everyone needs to stand up to Ukip and what they stand for”.

But one week later, he’s saying the opposite in a speech to the CBI, calling it “a wake-up call to Europe and to Britain” illustrating “deep anxiety and alienation from the institutions and philosophy of Europe” and “the need to reconnect”.

And then our lords and masters wonder why we don’t trust the political classes and their loop-tape weasel words.
