The right way

Have your say

I see that drivers have been fined millions of pounds for entering yellow box junctions when they should not (your report, 4 January).

Conversely, there seems to be an increasing minority who righteously refuse to enter yellow box junctions when
turning right. Paragraph 174 in the Highway Code states: “You may enter the box and wait when you want to turn right, and are only stopped from doing so by oncoming traffic”, just as you should at any
junction.

I remember the old TV
adverts which said: “Yellow boxes make all drivers do what good drivers have been doing for years.” What we need is fewer yellow boxes and more good drivers.

The important point is that while these drivers are ignorant of this fairly minor road safety rule, what if they are also ignorant of something that could be life threatening, for example thinking that a green traffic light just means go?
