Keith Howell (Letters, 4 July) refers to Alex Salmond’s disappointing performance when interviewed on the topic of foreign affairs.
Seemingly, compared with domestic issues the heart of the nationalists isn’t really in discussing international relations.
Not because the Nationalists have little or no influence in any formal sense on foreign policy – it’s a consequence of the elephant in the room ignored by US, UK and EU governments.Isn’t the elephant the failure to push Nato as the West’s military response in the Middle East?
As the terrorist threat is common to all Western countries the Nato alliance is most appropriate.
Arguably, the deep wounds inflicted by the Nationalist volte face on Nato are still somewhat raw.
