Seeking security

I read with interest Jane Dev-ine’s very welcome and well-
argued Platform (4 March) about the need for further reform of the private rented sector.

We agree that the Scottish Government needs to do more to protect private tenants and that security in their home is a fundamental need for everyone.

That’s why Shelter Scotland has called on the Scottish Government to reform the private rented sector in our Rethink Renting campaign launched in January. We are calling on it to reform the private rented sector and turn it into a place fit for families and fair for all.

Specifically, this would require longer tenancy agreements to ensure that the increasing number of people who rely on the private rented sector can make a house a long-term home and live with increased security and dignity.
