Seeking grace

With regard to Christian theology, Keith O’Brien has not “fallen from grace” (your report, 3 May).

In its original use in the Epistle to the Galatians, the phrase refers to those who wish to approach God confident in their own moral qualities, rather than appealing to God’s mercy and receiving forgiveness as an act of divine grace.

One might speculate that his reliance on the grace – unmerited favour and acceptance – of God has never been clearer.
