In repeating the suggestion that the oceans have absorbed the expected rise in global temperatures Steuart Campbell gives no evidence (Letter, 7 August).

That is because there is very little evidence to support that particular guess from some climate scientists

Another possibility is that the expectation of rising temperatures was wrong, based as it is largely on climate models.

Certainly we need more knowledge about the influence of the oceans on climate, but the heat theory looks like a fig leaf to cover the unpleasant truth that climate predictions of dangerous global warming were not founded on good science.
