Scrutiny of BBC

I can only agree wholeheartedly with the sentiments expressed by C Hegarty (Letters, 29 July) regarding the impartiality of the BBC.

He concludes by asking whether the BBC would welcome independent scrutiny of its referendum coverage from media experts outwith the UK, believing, sadly, that such a step is necessary.

With its impartiality increasingly being questioned, I urge the BBC now to invite the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe’s Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights to undertake to address any concerns that are raised by them between now and September 2014.

That way the BBC can fully demonstrate its commitment to impartiality and willingness to respond to concerns raised.

If the BBC is not willing to invite scrutiny from a respected international body it can only reinforce existing doubt about its role.
