Helen Todd of Ramblers Scotland (Friends of the Scotsman, 3 July) paints an idyllic picture of all sections of society enjoying the delights of our National Parks responsibly, but sadly this is simply perpetuating the myth that Policies such as “Leave no trace” and the “Scottish Outdoor Access Code” are sufficient to prevent the “minority” from being anti social when this is simply not the case.

Last weekend, four passing places along Loch Chon were fully occupied by cars and vans, as the owners and passengers enjoyed camping and other outdoor pursuits. And they all left behind their waste in black bags that were inevitably burst open by wild animals. This is a far too regular and destructive occurrence and only stricter management of Park space will encourage people to behave better.
